SAY IT AIN'T SO, GOB: I may have turned half-Republican of late, but I can still dust off my elitist bonafides from time to time. And this story reminds me of one of the bedrock theses of my young-adult life: The mass of Americans have no friggin' taste.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is like the one good situation comedy on network televison in the past decade, and nobody's watching. You can't blame the network for cancelling it. I just marvel that Leno and EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND are what passes for many for the mass of Americans. Maybe my Inner Snob will reintroduce me to my Inner Democrat.

Hess, I'm at an airport on a conference call, waiting for this pre-pro meeting to start when I stumbled on your page from Isaac's page. Were you at Burnett today? I think I'm destined to never see you in action.

Anyways, hope all is well. And, yes, it is a cryin' shame this show is getting cancelled. For the second time. Actually had an email chain going around about this. I hope people start watching the Office, so that doesn't get cancelled. Actually think the NBC version is funnier than the British one.

i am sick about this. i love arrested development. i think i agree -- the population at large doesn't want to engage their grey matter that much when watching tv. shows with dumb blondes, dopey husbands, and rampant teenage sex make the world go round!

i haven't given the american version of the office a chance. i am loyal to the british version.

All TV, Laurel? Do you feel the same way about movies? Do you think NOVA on PBS is just as bad as MARRIED WITH CHILDREN? How about the Presidential Debates? The local news? (I tend to think shows like ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT have far more merit than our local news broadcast.)

No medium is inherently bad. At least, that's my opinion.

BTW...

...Ferd! Good to see you pop in. Would love to hear how the gig is going.

Will have to see if I have a current e-mail for you...

And want to give a second chance to the American OFFICE. Will set TV accordingly.

Overall the gig is good. At its essence, I love it. Love being given a challenge by the client and trying to solve it. And, when you do stumble on to a really good solution it feels great.

On the flipside, you do have to deal with clients. That can be a major drag. Especially when they are billion-dollar corporations with more red tape you can imagine, levels and levels of management to go through, and that's just before you get to the lawyers.

All in all, though, and despite wanting a raise and that promotion I'm due (supposedly in the next few months) right now, it's been a great, great experience. I've become way more diplomatic and polished than I ever thought I could be. It's kind of the anti-Tunes.

It took me two tries, but now I do think the Office may be the funniest show on tv (behind Curb Your Enthusiasm).

My email's robertferdman@hotmail.com. Would love to hear what's up with you and the Hesses.

Some movies are acceptable. Local news is all crap. Presidential debates and PBS do have some merit.
