GO WEST: This blogger is bound for glory, this blogger. Or at least bound for Los Angeles.

Repeat after me: Monday night, Anaheim; Tuesday night, West Hollywood; Wednesday night, Santa Monica; Thursday night, arrive in Chicago around 10:00PM. Long week.

Both boys have strep throats; and I woke up with a golfball in my throat this morning. Luckily my doc phoned in an amoxicillin order, so all is hopefully on the mend, or at least headed that way.

Sounds like a whirlwind trip and not much fun if you're not feeling well. Hope your antibiotic does the trick, and also hope your wife manages with two sick kids. Usually 24 hours of antibiotics turns things around with children.

Hugs and good health wishes - Mom

So far my antibiotic hasn't kicked in, but the kids are doing great. They started theirs on Saturday and all was much improved this morning. I've just arrived at my Anaheim hotel with a 101 fever. Ah, well...

You're much more upbeat than I'd be. Good luck, and get home soon, man.

Thanks, Ike. Motrin seems to have the fever down. Meanwhile, I figure I may as well be upbeat. Beats sitting around feeling miserable. Which I've been doing some of, too, of course. Mostly I've just had enough travel. Sick or not, it's just no fun sitting around in Anaheim when your family is sitting around in Chicago.

That's pretty funny. I'm totally sick in Barcelona, up tomorrow at 5am headed to India. I started the Ciprosomethingerother this morning, antibiotics I phoned in from the last trip. As well, I have some sort of fever.

Somewhere about 430am last night, I laughed at myself in bed as I lay with a wet towel on my head staring at the ceiling in my 85 degree hilton room. I could be pissed, but then I'd be pissed and sick.

What's the point.

Apparently Hess guys weren't given the immunity gene.

I keep seeing myself in the two way mirror thinking, "Why the fuck am I doing this?"

Take care of yourself, Brother.

This is terrible for a mother. No matter what your age, it's horrible to think of both of you sick and that far from home. Thank God you each have a good sense of humor, and hopefully the "get well" antibodies are kicking in by now and things will start to improve. I send a mother's hug - feel better soon, both of you!

Sorry to hear about all the illnesses. It sounds aweful! But, just for the record, sickness is not a Hess gene. I think it's a Chicago thing. Eric is never sick. (I just knocked on wood) He's like the healthiest guy on the face of the planet. Now, of course it may have something to do with his "non-stressful" lifestyle.
Hmmm...

Get well soon!

hey - dropped in again unnannounced. my last travel trip thing (chicago - st. louis - austin - baltimore - chicago) i took some airborned. a couple a day and it worked great. all natural vitamins and stuff you just drop in water. doesn't taste bad and kept my pending flu from really breaking out.

Hey, all...

Dunno if Hesses are always sick or not (last year I took zero sick days from work, and in general I almost never take a sick day), but I do know that since I've had kids I seem to pick up a high percentage of the stuff they pick up. It's as if they're the germ sponges, and in loving 'em I'm squeezing all their germs out on me.

As for Zicam and Aiborne and all that stuff, I'm not really a believer. Seems like every study I see refutes their efficacy. Plus I clearly have/had strep throat, and last time I checked that's not a cold but a bacterial infection that calls for some form of antibiotic.

I'm three days into the 'scrip, and I have no fever and less soreness in my throat. I'm taking Motrin every 4-6 hours, which seems to help.

Oddly enough, Paramount did an 11th-hour cancel today, so I have no formal biz requirements today. Just some e-mailing to set up subsequent appts. for upcoming trips to Minneapolis and Dallas, and my usual management/maintenance of my workload.

One more day to go on this trip -- a quick presentation tomorrow morning in Santa Monica, and then a race to the airport. Hope to stand by on a flight that'll get my in around 8PM, rather than my currently scheduled 10PMer...

Being sick away from home stinks. I remember spending New Years in Los Angeles a bunch of years ago - we saw the Wolverines beat the crap out of the Huskies in the Rose Bowl - mostly on my knees in front of the toilet. I think it was a batch of bad oysters from Gladstone's; I KNOW it wasn't too much champagne.

I hope you caught the early flight home.

That Zicam stuff seemed to work for me. Was sick with some sort of bug all week. Low grade fever, cruddy sinuses, cough, etc. It worked. I feel lots better.

One good thing about strep. Antibiotics usually knock the socks off off of it pretty quickly and you are on your way.
